Meet the Founder
Growing up in the Homewood area of Pittsburgh, PA., with parents suffering from substance abuse, Ashley Moorefield had her share of hardship. Being second to the oldest of eight children, in a home that often times lacked the basic necessities, Ashley learned early on how to take care of others.
In the opinion of most, the social service system had failed Ashley & her siblings. However, in Ashley's opinion, she had just been introduced to her calling. She had learned to pray, how to survive in unspeakable conditions, to put the needs of others before her own, to advocate on behalf of someone other than herself, to take ownership of her life, to focus on what she could control, to be bold & fearless in the face of uncertainty. Ashley had learned TO BE A LEADER!
As a result of what some would call a hard life, Ashley Moorefield, alongside her Husband, Shawn Moorefield, Founded Taking Youth Higher (TYH) in 2007. A youth mentoring program hosted in the backyard of the Moorefield’s Home. After the expansion of TYH; Ashley Moorefield, remembering a rough childhood that consisted of CYF involvement, began the process of growing the then small youth program into a full non-profit agency.
Today, Ashley Moorefield is the 30 year old Founder & CEO of Serenity Living Transitional Home (SLTH).
Ashley holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Point Park University & 13 years of experience in community work & social services. She also has the support of her Board of Directors holding over 60 years combined experience. Ashley is most importantly a wife of 9 years & mother of two.
